A veces los astros se confabulan y lo previsible se vuelve remoto. Los sectores que salen ilesos de la tormenta perfecta económica modelada por el coronavirus se cuentan con los dedos de una mano. En el caso del limón de Murcia tampoco parecía sencillo que la historia fuera a sufrir un giro inesperado. Pero así ha ocurrido.
Los mercados internacionales mantienen la demanda pese al Covid-19; las heladas en Turquía han dejado fuera de juego a uno de los principales competidores del cítrico español y el alto contenido de vitamina C, tan beneficiosa para fortalecer el sistema inmunitario en tiempo de pandemia, han disparado la venta de limón en Europa.
La Asociación Agraria de Jóvenes Agricultores (Asaja) de Murcia ha mostrado su “satisfacción” ante la “activa y dinámica” demanda de limón español en los mercados internacionales a pesar de la crisis generada por el Covid-19.
El secretario general de Asaja en la Comunidad, Alfonso Gálvez, ha señalado que “debido a las heladas producidas en Turquía se ha disparado la demanda, y al haberse cerrado tantos mercados y puntos de venta, todo el mundo compra limones a España, ya que tenemos una extraordinaria calidad”. “Esto es, sin duda alguna, una magnífica noticia tanto para los productores como para las empresas exportadoras”, ha apostillado.
“Hay una demanda brutal de limón español”, ha comentado Martina Lípová, de la empresa murciana Hijos de Alberto del Cerro, en declaraciones recogidas por Fresh Plaza . “Por problemas de heladas, Turquía ha terminado antes este año y Sudáfrica está llegando con volúmenes limitados todavía y precios altos, por lo que el limón español está bastante solo en los mercados europeos, en momentos en los que todos piden este producto. No parece que el mercado vaya a regularse hasta que lleguen los limones argentinos”.
Numerosos estudios recomiendan el consumo de limón, así como de otros cítricos y productos con alto contenido de vitamina C, para reforzar el sistema inmunitario. Esto, unido a que es un producto que puede mantenerse fresco por más tiempo que otras frutas, es lo que está motivando a los consumidores a aumentar sus compras.
